Ketchikan, Alaska

Holy Truth of Ketchikan, Alaska, is served by Pastor David Fuerstenau.

The roots of Holy Truth Lutheran Church began growing in 1968, when Gilbert and Bonnie Siltman and their three daughters moved to Ketchikan. They conducted worship services in their home, and were occasionally served by CLC pastors from Washington State. In ten years the group had grown to eight communicant members, and a CLC mission station, Ketchikan Lutheran Mission, was established, with its first resident pastor. By this time worship services were held in the community room of a high-rise apartment building.

The Ketchikan Lutheran Mission was granted CLC Mission status in 1980. A constitution was adopted, a name was chosen, and the congregation was received into membership of the Church of the Lutheran Confession. Pastor Ralph Schaller served as the congregation's first permanent pastor. During his tenure, a house was purchased on a corner lot of Buren Road. Half of the walk-in basement was converted into a chapel, which still serves as such to the present day.

Seven resident pastors have had the privilege of serving this congregation in Southeast Alaska, where the abundance of earth and sea testify to the goodness and glory of God. Holy Truth strives to be a further beacon of God's love, basking in His unconditional grace, treasuring the saving Gospel of His son Jesus Christ, and endeavoring faithfully, with God's help, to remain true to His Word and the historic Lutheran Confessions. The current pastor is David Fuerstenau, who can be contacted at (901) 225-2842. Worship services are held every Sunday, at 426 Buren Road, at 10:00 a.m. The services are preceded by Bible Study class, at 9:00 a.m. We welcome all visitors, and the opportunity to share what God has graciously effected and given to us in Christ.
