(Refrain)
Jesus! I do truly love Him, More than all in Him I find. He hath granted me forgiveness, I am His and He is mine. (Refrain)

Opening Hymn 775 (V 1-4) In Supplement - “ Thy Strong Word”

The Invocation, Confession Of Sins And Absolution

C: Almighty God, merciful Father, we are sinful by nature and have sinned against You in our thoughts, words and actions. But we are sorry for our transgressions and pray You, of Your bountiful mercy, to be gracious and merciful unto us. Forgive us for Jesus' sake, renew us by Your Spirit and lead us in the way everlasting. Amen.

P: Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only,but also for the sins of the whole world. We are forgiven. With boldness and confidence we may approach the throne of grace to find help in time of need. In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord.

All sing: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without
end. Amen. Hallelujah!

The Scripture Reading - Matthew 17: 1 - 9
Now after six days, Jesus took Peter, James and John and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves, and was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; If you wish, let us make here three tabernacles – one for You, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

(Sing) 'Tis good, Lord, to be here, Thy glory fills the night;
Thy face and garments, like the sun, Shine with majestic light.

'Tis good, Lord, to be here, Thy beauty to behold
Where Moses and Elijah stand, Thy messengers of old.

Fulfiller of the past, Promise of things to be,
We hail Thy body glorified And our redemption see.

While he was still speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them; And suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying: “This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. But Jesus came and touched them and said,“Arise and do not be afraid.”And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. Now, as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying: “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”

(Sing) Before we taste of death, We see Thy Kingdom come;
In faith we hold this vision bright And see our heav'nly home.

'Tis good, Lord, to be here, Yet we may not remain;
But since thou bidst us leave the mount, Come with us to the plain.

In Word and Gospel pure, The story of Your Love,
We live and love to serve You now, Both here and heav'n above.

The Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn 719 (Supplement) - “Jesus On The Mountain Peak”

The Sermon .................. 2 Peter 1: 16 - 21

We did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received honor & glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying: “This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the sacred mountain. And we also have a more sure Word of prophecy, which you do well to heed as a Light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the Morning Star rises in your hearts; Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation; For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

THE TRANSFIGURATION EXPERIENCE

1. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:
29 “ Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace,
According to Your word;
30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation
31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”

33 And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against 35 (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

Scripture taken from the New King James Version®. Matthew 2: 12 - 23

And, having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, the Magi returned to their country by another way. When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up”, he said, “take the Child and His mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.” So he got up, took the Child and His mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called My Son.” When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: “A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.” After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said: “Get up, take the Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the province of Galilee and went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets: “He will be called a Nazarene.”

SEE GOD PROTECT CHRISTMAS

The Responsive Reading Of Psalm 2

P: Why do the nations conspire and the people plot in vain?
C: The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather
together against the Lord and against His Anointed One.

P: “Let us break their chains”, they say, “and throw off their fetters.”
C: He Who sits in the heavens laughs; The Lord scoffs at them.
Then He rebukes them in His anger and terrifies them in His
wrath, saying, “I have established my King on Zion, My holy hill.

P: I will proclaim the decree of the Lord; He said to Me: “You are My
Son; Today I have become Your Father. A CHRISTMAS CHILD OF HOPE

+ Recitations By Grade 6

- Jocelyn G: “I know the thoughts that I think toward you”, says the Lord, “thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). Our God is a God of hope. We are His children of hope. When sin entered our world, it not only destroyed man's wonderful relationship with His loving God, it also removed all hope for the future. Hopelessness filled man's heart and life.”
- Bailey G: But the God of hope intervened. With His mercy, He promised to Adam and Eve an “Offspring Who would crush the serpent's head” and restore hope to a lost world. As the years passed, this hope was reaffirmed as God's people waited in faith for that hope to become reality.
- Aben S: The Psalmist reminds us in Psalm 146 - “Blessed is the man whose hope is in the Lord”. In the midst of many life & ministry struggles, the prophet Jeremiah proclaims: “Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope. Because of the Lord's great mercy we are not consumed; His compassions fail not; They are new every morning.”
- Riley S: On that first Christmas night “hopes and fears of all the years” were finally realized. The Child of Hope came from heaven above and was born as the world's Savior. For us, the Child of Hope has come. And now, in faith and hope we await His coming again in power and glory to take us home to heaven.
- Bryan S: The Apostle Paul reminds us that “our faith rests on the hope of eternal life, which God, Who does not lie, has promised since the beginning of time. And now the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all people as we wait for the blessed hope – the glorious appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
- Taylor S: Yes, “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Peter reminds us that God, Whose promises never fail, has given to us a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. We celebrate your coming, O Child of Hope!

+ Grades 3-5 & 7-8 Join Grade 6

+ Grades 3-8 (& Congregation) Sing: “O Little Town Of Bethlehem”

+ All Children Go Down Except Grade 5

II. A CHRISTMAS CHILD OF LOVE

+ Group Recitation By Grade 5 (Christopher B, Brennan W, Jonathan G and Zachary T)

The Bethlehem Infant was indeed a Child of Love – of God's great love for a lost world. It was the Father's love which sent His dear Son to earth, and it was the Son's love which moved Him to come to us that first Christmas as our infant Savior::
“And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. And all went to be taxed, everyone into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David; To be taxed with Mary, his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her first-born Son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” (Luke 2: 1-7)

Grades 5 Returns To Seats

• Choir Song: “Birthday Carol”
+ The Christmas Eve Offering

III. A CHRISTMAS CHILD OF PEACE

+ Grades 3-4 & Ethan To Front

+ Ethan G: The Child of Peace entered a world that far from peaceful – filled with human hatred, strife and conflict. It remains so today. But the ChristChild came bringing the greatest peace ever – spiritual peace between a holy God and sinful man because He paid for our sins. “Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given. And the Kingdom shall be upon His shoulders. And His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” And this is the peace proclaimed by Christmas angels as we now hear:

+ Grades 3-4 Recitation: ”And there were in the same country shepherds, abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not; For behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” (Luke 2: 8-14) Grades 3-4 & Ethan G go to seats

IV. And they came with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning the Child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.” (Luke 2: 15-20)

+ Song By All Children (Not PK) And Choir: “Christmastime”

+ The Lord's Prayer And Benediction (Grades 3-8 Remain Up Front, Rest To Seats)

+Sam N: We have heard the Christmas angels proclaim the good tidings of great joy and we have seen the hearts and lives of shepherds and of ourselves filled with joy and praise. God's great Christmas gift to us this night is This wonderful, heaven-sent Child of Hope, Child of Love, Child of Peace and Child of Joy. Thanks be to God for this indescribable Gift! May we return to our homes and lives glorifying and praising God for all things that we have heard and seen, which the Lord has made known to us. The Life appeared; We have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have heard and seen, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete. This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you; God is light; In Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him, yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the Light, as He is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.”.

The Lighting Of The Advent Candle (Choir & Flute–Leah Hallstein)

“Come, O Child Of Love, we pray. Revelation 22: 12 - 21

Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with Me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha an the Omega,the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Blessed are those whose robes are washed, who have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers and sexually immoral, the murderers, idolaters and those who loves and practices lies. I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony to the churches. I am the Root and Offspring of David, the bright morning Star. The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Whoever is thirsty, let him come and take the free gift of the water of life.

I warn everyone who hears the words of this prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. He Who testifies to these things, says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Revelation 20: 1 - 6

And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. He threw him into the abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the Word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with
Him for a thousand years.

THE MILLENNIUM OF GOSPEL RULE

1. Will Give Way To The Christ's Eternal Kingdom

The Offering, Confession Of Sins and Absolution

The Communion Prayer And Consecration

The Distribution Of The The Lord's Supper (Hymn 315)

(Holy Communion is being celebrated in our service today. The reception of this holy Sacrament is, according to Holy Scripture, both an expression of “vertical” unity and fellowship with God by faith in Jesus Christ and “horizontal” unity and fellowship with those with whom we are united in faith and in our confession of God's Word. We therefore ask only those who have publicly professed such unity by membership at Berea or another CLC congregation to come forward to the Lord's table. This is not a judgment of anyone's faith or heart (“The Lord knows them that are His”), but rather an expression of our Scriptural faith and convictions. Any having questions or seeking a church home are invited to speak with the pastor.)

The Lord's Prayer And Benediction

Hymn 207 (V 2,4 & 6) - “Thanks To Thee, O Christ Victorious”

Scripture taken from the New King James Version®.
