Song By Church Choir -“Our Great Savior”
(Director: Cathy Augustin; Accompanist: Amy Tester)
Jesus! What a Friend for sinners! Jesus, Lover of my soul. Friends may fail me, foes assail me, He, my Savior, makes me whole. (Refrain)
Hallelujah! What a Savior! Hallelujah, what a Friend. Saving, helping, keeping, loving, He is with me to the end. Jesus! What a help in sorrow, while the billows o'er me roll. Even when my heart is breaking, he, my comfort, helps my soul. (Refrain)
Jesus! I do truly love Him, More than all in Him I find. He hath granted me forgiveness, I am His and He is mine. (Refrain)

Opening Hymn 775 (V 1-4) In Supplement - “ Thy Strong Word”

The Invocation, Confession Of Sins And Absolution

C: Almighty God, merciful Father, we are sinful by nature and have sinned against You in our thoughts, words and actions. But we are sorry for our transgressions and pray You, of Your bountiful mercy, to be gracious and merciful unto us. Forgive us for Jesus' sake, renew us by Your Spirit and lead us in the way everlasting. Amen.

P: Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only,but also for the sins of the whole world. We are forgiven. With boldness and confidence we may approach the throne of grace to find help in time of need. In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord.

All sing: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without
end. Amen. Hallelujah!

The Scripture Reading - Matthew 17: 1 - 9
Now after six days, Jesus took Peter, James and John and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves, and was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; If you wish, let us make here three tabernacles – one for You, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

(Sing) 'Tis good, Lord, to be here, Thy glory fills the night;
Thy face and garments, like the sun, Shine with majestic light.

'Tis good, Lord, to be here, Thy beauty to behold
Where Moses and Elijah stand, Thy messengers of old.

Fulfiller of the past, Promise of things to be,
We hail Thy body glorified And our redemption see.

While he was still speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them; And suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying: “This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. But Jesus came and touched them and said,“Arise and do not be afraid.”And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. Now, as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying: “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”

(Sing) Before we taste of death, We see Thy Kingdom come;
In faith we hold this vision bright And see our heav'nly home.

'Tis good, Lord, to be here, Yet we may not remain;
But since thou bidst us leave the mount, Come with us to the plain.

In Word and Gospel pure, The story of Your Love,
We live and love to serve You now, Both here and heav'n above.

The Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn 719 (Supplement) - “Jesus On The Mountain Peak”

The Sermon .................. 2 Peter 1: 16 - 21

We did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received honor & glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying: “This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the sacred mountain. And we also have a more sure Word of prophecy, which you do well to heed as a Light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the Morning Star rises in your hearts; Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation; For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

THE TRANSFIGURATION EXPERIENCE

1. Reaffirms The Divine Glory Of The Suffering Savior
2. Points Us To the Glory & Assurance Of God's Word
3. Shows How God Knows & Meets Our Spiritual Needs
