THE CHRISTIAN’S GREAT BATTLE

Order of Worship:

For Pre-Service Reading – Psalm 27 (P 129 In Front Of Hymnal)

Opening Hymn 467 (V 1-3) – “Built On The Rock”

The Liturgy ……………………………………… Hymnal, Page 5ff

The Scripture – Ephesians 6: 10 - 17
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and the power of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you can withstand the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and, having done all, to stand. Stand firm, therefore, having the belt of truth around your waist, and with the breastplate of righteousness, and your feet fitted with the readiness of the Gospel of peace; Above all, take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

The Apostles Creed (Hymnal, Page 12)

Hymn 768 (Supplement) –“Be Strong In The Lord”

The Sermon ……………………………………… Ephesians 6 : 10

“Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might”.

Hymn 451 – “Stand Up! Stand Up For Jesus!”

Our Gifts For The Lord’s Work

Our Prayer

Lord God, we are creatures, but You are our almighty Creator and Preserver; We are sinful, but You are holy; We are lost and condemned in our sins, but You in mercy have rescued and redeemed us through Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ; We are weak, but You are strong; We are vulnerable, but You are invincible.
Through Your holy Law and our knowledge of our own hearts, help us see through the façade of our own seeming armor of righteous- ness and strength. Lead us by faith to trust instead in You and Your armor alone for salvation, for strength, for safety and for eternal victory. Without Christ, we are vulnerable and powerless before the wiles of the evil one. Yet, with Jesus and His Word at our side, as we wield “the sword of the Spirit”, victory is assured. In our many life struggles, daily renew us and reassure us through Your precious promises. This we ask in the Name of conquering Savior Who has taught us to pray:

P: I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever:
C: With my mouth I will proclaim Your faithfulness to all generations.

P: The Lord has made a covenant with His people; He has sworn to establish David’s Seed forever:
C: All the heavens shall praise Your wonders, O Lord – Your faithfulness in the congregation of the saints.

P: For who in heaven can be compared to the Lord? Who among the sons of the earth can be likened to the Lord?
C: O Lord God of hosts, who possesses either Your strength or Your faithfulness? You are to be revered by all who surround you.

P: The heavens are Yours, the earth and world also, for You created them.
C: Holiness and righteousness live before Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face.

P: Blessed is the people who know that joyful sound, who walk in the light of Your radiance.
C: In Your Name they shall rejoice all the day, and in Your righteousness they shall be exalted. For You are the glory of their strength.

P: For the Lord is our Fortress; the Holy One of Israel is our King;
C: For You have spoken to Your Holy One saying: “In You I have helped and exalted my people. For I have anointed & strengthened them. The enemy shall not overcome them, for My faithfulness and My mercy shall ever be with them; And in My Name shall their horn be exalted.”.

P:“Though their sins grieve Me, My love and My mercy will remain forever and My Covenant with them shall never fail: C: Though their earthly lives are fleeting and the power of the grave lies before them, their family line will be established forever, their throne as long as the heavens endure.” Praise be to the Lord forever and ever. Amen.

Hymn: “O Morning Star, How Fair And Bright”

1. O Morning Star, how fair and bright! You shine with God’s own truth and light, Aglow with grace and mercy!
Of Jacob’s race, King David’s son, Our Lord and Master, You have won Our hearts to serve You only!
Lowly, holy! Great and glorious, All victorious,
Rich in blessing! Rule and might o’er all possessing!

2. Come, heav’nly Bridegroom, Light divine, and deep within our hearts now shine; there light a flame undying!
In Your one body let us be As living branches of a tree, Your life our lives supplying.
Now though daily Earth’s deep sadness May perplex us
And distress us, Yet with heav’nly joy You bless us.

3. Lord, when You look on us in love, At once there falls from God above A ray of purest pleasure.
Your Word and spirit, flesh and blood Refresh our souls with heav’nly food. You are our dearest Treasure!
Let Your mercy Warm and cheer us! O draw near us!
For You teach us God’s own Love through You has reached us.
